Certified
Specialist Criminal Law, State Bar of
California Board of Legal Specialization
Mr. Hayden is Certified as a Specialist in Criminal
Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal
Specialization – in California, there are less than
400 attorneys with this distinction – who has received
the AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell and a 10.0/10.0
AVVO rating. Named a Northern California Super
Lawyer several times, Mr. Hayden has over 20 years of
trial experience in the criminal courts.
Why Does
the State Bar Certify Legal Specialists?
• To help the public identify attorneys who have
demonstrated proficiency in specialized fields of law;
• To encourage the maintenance and improvement of
attorney competence in specialized fields of law.
If you had a serious illness, wouldn't you want to be
treated by a doctor who specialized in that
area? If your child suffered from cancer, would
you seek a podiatrist to treat him or her?
CRIMINAL LAW IS SERIOUS.
What Does It Mean
When an Attorney is a Certified Criminal Law
Specialist?
A Certified Specialist is more than just an attorney
who specializes in a particular area of law. A
California attorney who is certified by the State Bar
as a Criminal Law specialist must have:
• Taken and passed an extensive written examination in
Criminal Law;
• Demonstrated a high level of experience in Criminal
Law;
• Fulfilled ongoing education requirements;
• Been favorably evaluated by other attorneys and
judges familiar with her or his
work.
Certified specialists must go through a
"re-certification" process every 5 years, and continue
to fulfill extensive and specialized education
requirements.
Attorneys may identify themselves as a “certified”
specialist in California only if they are certified by
the State Bar of California Board of Legal
Specialization
What can a certified Criminal Law
specialist do for you?
• Fully advise you;
• Vigorously defend you through all stages of your
case;
• Help protect your rights;
• Help you effectively handle your case from start to
finish.
The criminal justice system can be frightening and
intimidating, but a qualified defense attorney who
understands how the process works can protect your
constitutional rights, pursue avenues to minimize any
charges against you, and increase the chances that
your name is cleared in court. Mr. Hayden has
successfully handled thousands of criminal and
juvenile delinquency cases and defended both adults
and minors charged with DUI and drunk-driving related
DMV suspensions, assault and battery, domestic
violence, robbery, burglary, theft, lewd conduct,
rape, molestation, other sex crimes, drug possession,
drug sales, weapons offenses, and first-degree murder.
